Experts to be featured at food-safety conference
Jamaica's fourth International Conference on Food Safety, hosted by the Food Hygiene Bureau, is scheduled to get under way tomorrow and end on Friday.

The conference, to be held at the Knutsford Court Hotel in St Andrew, will feature international and world renowned food-safety experts who will speak on topical issues such as mitigation risk management in the hotel industry, including H1N1 (swine flu) plans and implementation strategies.

Marva Hewitt, organiser of the conference and CEO of the Food Hygiene Bureau, said: "The goal of the conference is to provide meaningful dialogue among the key stakeholders in the region for a better understanding of the threats to the Caribbean's food supply and to find solutions."

Perfect time

The conference comes at a time when the world is battling the spread of diseases such as the influenza A (H1N1) virus.

"We are delighted that we are bringing together a group of outstanding experts and leaders in their field to address this conference, and we are encour-aging tertiary students, business persons, farmers, food processors, restaurants, educational establish-ments and statutory agencies to make every effort to attend this international food-safety con-ference," said public relations representative Horace Phillips.

Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, Agriculture Minister Dr Christopher Tufton, Dr Eva Fuller, director of health promotion in the Ministry of Health, and Dr Homero Silva, environmental health adviser, PAHO, are slated to address the conference.
