NW Clarendon without MP until Sept
The constituents of North West Clarendon will be without a member of parliament for the next six weeks as Supreme Court Judge Lloyd Hibbert reserved his decision yesterday until early September.

The judge is to decide whether the seat should go to People's National Party candidate Richard Azan or if there is to be a by-election.

Michael Stern is no longer the MP because the judge ruled on Monday that based on his admissions, he was not duly elected as MP in the 2007 general election.

Stern admitted in the dual-citizenship case brought by Azan that at the time of the election, he was a United States citizen and had a US passport.

Yesterday, Stern's attorney, Kirk Anderson, completed his submissions and urged the judge to order a by-election based on the court's ruling in the Dabdoub v Vaz case. He argued that Stern was properly nominated under the Representation of the People Act and the seat should not go to Azan.

Attorney-at-law Abe Dabdoub, who is representing Azan, has asked the judge to declare Stern's nomination null and void and for the seat to be given to Azan.
