EU ambassador off and running
German Ambassador Josef Beck (left) meets Jorge Garzon, as Garzon's wife, EU Ambassador Paola Amadei, looks on.
Ambassador Paola Amadei is just getting started.

The new European Union head of delegation held a vin d'honneur on Tuesday at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel to celebrate presenting her credentials to Governor General Sir Patrick Allen earlier that day. She had previously met Foreign Affairs Minister A.J. Nicholson last week. Ambassador Amadei has been in Jamaica since January 2, but because of the change of government hasn't had the chance to formally start her duties. With husband Jorge Garzon at her side, she joked in a short speech that she had been on the sidelines but was ready to finally get into game.

"I am thrilled to be in Jamaica and to get to know you and to start working, officially," she said. Ambassador Amadei's orientation comes at a convenient time, as next week the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts Diplomatic Week, giving her a chance to meet even more of her colleagues. We have highlights from the vin d'honneur.
